Willow Innovations launches Willow Go, next generation wearable breast pump. Industrial Design by Bould Design

Responding to the need for a more accessible, convenient wearable breast pump, Willow Innovations launched their next generation device, the Willow Go. With a reusable container and a $329 price point, the Willow Go is easier to use and more within reach of Moms on a budget.

Bould Design collaborated with the Willow Innovation engineering team to design a super comfortable, easy to use and clean, wearable breast pump. Mom’s have a lot of things competing for their attention, a breast pump should not be one of them. Designed according to Bould Designs’ core principles of function, simplicity, quality and character, the Willow Go just works.

To begin with, the overall form has a very natural profile that sits comfortably on the breast while also easily fitting into a bra. Under a favorite blouse, the pump is discrete and no one but Mom has to know she is multi-tasking. A wearable breast pump should not make you feel self-conscious, which would defeat its purpose.

The pump controls are located at the very top of the inward facing surface of the pump body making them convenient for Mom to access. The pump control buttons (power, mode, increase, decrease) are sculpted so that each button is unmistakably distinguishable just by feel, easy to learn, and easy to remember. The sculpting is subtle enough to be felt but isn’t deep enough to attract dirt and grime build up. Color has been thoughtfully applied to highlight user interaction and inform assembly.

The milk container is transparent and with a quick downward glance, Mom can access production and adjust pump settings as she sees fit. The top of the container has a built-in pour spout and the milk can go from pump, to bottle, to baby in a matter of seconds. This feature was tested ad infinitum, so we know it works well. Even the heavily sleep deprived will be able to confidently transfer the liquid gold into a bottle with a narrow opening. As it stands upright, there is easy visibility for measuring milk levels, and two milk container sizes accommodate varying production levels.

The pump form and every detail was pressed into the service of making the device easy to use and understand. The design and engineering teams worked hand in glove to bring about a result that will give Mom’s more flexibility and make life a little easier.
