hello robot
stretch 4

stretch 4 is a next-generation mobile manipulation robot designed to safely assist people in homes, workplaces, and research environments. developed by hello robot, the platform rethinks what practical robotics can be, favoring approachable, human-centered interaction over intimidating humanoid form factors.

bould design collaborated with hello robot to evolve the stretch platform into a more refined, capable, and emotionally intelligent product. the design balances advanced sensing and mobility with a compact, lightweight architecture that feels safe, approachable, and ready to operate shoulder-to-shoulder with people.

stretch 4 features an omnidirectional mobile base, telescoping arm, wide-angle 3d sensing head, and configurable end-of-arm tools, creating a highly adaptable platform for physical ai applications. the robot’s sensor-rich architecture dramatically improves environmental awareness while minimizing blind spots, enabling safer and more reliable interaction in real-world environments.

the project reflects a core belief shared by both teams: robots designed for everyday life should prioritize usefulness, clarity, and trust. rather than mimicking humans, stretch 4 embraces a purposeful form language optimized for safety, accessibility, and intuitive operation. the result is a robot that feels less like a machine on display and more like a practical extension of the people it supports.

throughout the development process, bould worked closely with hello robot to refine the platform’s proportions, visual architecture, and interaction details, helping translate sophisticated robotics technology into a product that feels calm, capable, and genuinely helpful.
