Span Raises $20 Million and Announces Amazon Alexa Integration

Span, the company that reinvented the home electrical panel, has raised $20M and announced Amazon Alexa integration. Founded by ex-Tesla executive, Arch Rao, Span set out to simplify the adoption of solar power, electric vehicle charging and battery storage by replacing outdated electrical panels that are a barrier to installation.

Span provides a powerful virtual interface that gives homeowners control of their home electrical systems. Amazon Alexa integration makes it even easier to understand and control their home energy usage. Users will soon be able to use Alexa-connected devices to turn any circuit or appliance on or off and check on their power usage.

Span chose Bould Design as their strategic design partner. Their first collaboration, the Span Smart Panel, began shipping in the Summer of 2020. “The confident industrial design merges form and function in a light, bright, and unapologetically modern enclosure that represents Span’s vision of a clean energy future”, said Design Director Fred Bould. The studio has strong expertise in designing exceptional technology products for the home such as the Nest Learning Thermostat, Eero WiFi Systems, and Hunter Douglas Motorization Systems. The Span Smart Panel reflects this experience in thoughtful features such as interior lights that switch on when the panel door is opened.

Span will leverage this new funding to further expand its reach to homeowners and develop new product offerings.
